John Dewey, US philosopher and educator (1859-1952) stated, “The result of the educative process of the capacity for further education.” If education is the imparting or acquiring of knowledge, learning becomes a continual, life-long process. If we acknowledge and take advantage of our educational opportunities we gain more power to affect change in our lives and the world around us. Marian Wright Edelman, US children’s rights activist, commented, “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” When we impart or acquire knowledge we change the world around us, at least our part of it, every day.
